Showing no remorse after committing heinous crimes of murder, rape and armed robberies, the 16-year-old gang leader tried to threaten other juveniles kept in the Bhiwandi children home, but instead got to taste his own medicine by officials and other juveniles.
The police have revealed how informers played a major role in tracking the gang leader and three other offenders. The 16-year-old after killing and raping the corpse of the 22-year-old Shahad girl, an engineering graduate and a MPSC aspirant, as well as killing a watchman and burying his corpse in a chemical plant along with severely trying to kill other two watchman while committing robbery, was held by Thane police.
The teenager had deployed his three members – Nitin Waghe, 19, Nitesh Bhoir, 20, and Ravindra Waghe, 20, to support him during the crime as he took the lead. Police have recovered the stolen valuables from them.
According to sources, the gang leader did not show any remorse after committing such offences and went ahead to threaten other juveniles lodged inside the Bhiwandi children home for various crimes. However, he was treated the way he was treating them and was given a thrashing for his high-handedness.
"He entered into a scuffle with a group of boys inside the children home as he wanted to show his leadership and the crime he has committed outside. But this did not go down with other juveniles and they gave him the taste of his own medicine. Officials had to rush to control them," said an official.
Senior inspector, Devidas Gheware of Central Unit for crime branch, said, "The role of informers gave us the breakthrough as just tracking the locations did not help. As soon as we received a tip-off, we rushed to the spot and found them relaxing at a secluded spot. We nabbed them after blocking the exits."
"The trio adult offenders have been remanded to police custody till April 24, while the panel of the Child Welfare committee will take a call about the decision to treat the 16-year-old as an adult offender after interrogation," said Gheware.
'We want them to be paraded naked, hang them'
Meanwhile, locals from Bandarpada, Mohanepada and the nearby localities of Shahad in Kalyan have shown outrage regarding the gang members and the 16-year-old Juvenile as they now demand to parade them naked and hang them for committing such heinous crimes.
"This is unacceptable. They have killed a girl and raped her. They should not be spared and in order to discourage other people, the accused should be paraded naked, so that such incidents do not take place," said Kalim Chaini, a resident of Shahad.
"They should be hanged to death as this offence which has been done in cold blood. They are dangerous and should not be left to roam around freely," said Rashmi Kalani, a social worker for women wing in Kalyan.
