Laxmi Gawli (82), mother of gangster Arun Gawli, passed away at Jaslok Hospital on Saturday. She was hospitalised due to a lung infection.
Gawli, who is lodged in the Nagpur Central Jail, has applied for parole to be able to perform the last rites of his mother.
A source close to the Gawli family said, “A process for 45-day parole has been initiated and Arun Gawli is likely to reach to the city on Sunday around 5 pm to attend the funeral which would be conduct at Worli,”
Geeta Gawli, daughter of Arun Gawli and former corporator from Byculla said, “She (Laxmi) was suffering from lung infection and also had severe congestion in the chest, and so we had admitted her to the hospital around a month back”.
Gawli, is serving a life sentence for the 2007 murder of Shiv Sena corporator Kamalakar Jamsandekar.
Gawli and 11 others were convicted in 2012 for the offence, and it was the first conviction against Gawli, who has had a long list of criminal cases against him.
