Garment showroom in Dadar mall gutted

No casualties have been reported as the fire started around 2 am when there was no one in the mall except a few security guards.

A massive fire broke out at a shopping mall in Dadar in the early hours of Thursday. The fire was doused after 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. According to Mumbai fire brigade officials, the fire gutted a garment showroom on the first floor of Om Gopal Mall, damaging clothes worth lakhs of rupees. No casualties have been reported as the fire started around 2 am when there was no one in the mall except a few security guards.

"It was level-II and 10 fire tenders were pressed into service. It took more than three hours to douse the flames. The fire did not spread to other floors as the security guards informed the police and the fire department as soon as they spotted the blaze," said a BMC official from the fire control room.

"The cause of the fire is not known yet and we are probing to ascertain the cause," said Diwakar Shelke, Senior police Inspector of Dadar police station.
