A dozen students from a school in Germany will be coming to Mumbai this week on a student exchange programme with Mainadevi Bajaj International School (MBIS) in Malad.

The students will exchange ideas with their Indian peers and also attend a garba night, Mumbai Safari, educational excursions to the Global Vipassana Pagoda, visit the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, spend a day at Alibaug beach and also witness the burning of the effigy of Ravana on Dussera.

MBIS had its first exchange programme last year in October with Scheffel Gymnasium in Germany for ten days. The group included 11 students and 2 faculty members. A school official said, “The trip was fun with excursions, new learning experiences and cultural exchanges.”

School authorities say it was a big leap of faith for a school just two years old, but despite the apprehensions the organisers, they made it possible. The programme was the brainchild of Rajasthani Sammelan’s President Ashok Saraf, who addressed the concerns students, parents and staff had.
