A good rainfall is enough to bring the traffic to a halt near Manpada Flyover and surrounding areas on Ghodbunder Road. Though the area has posh housing complexes like Hiranandani Estate and Dosti Solitaire, in monsoon it experiences waterlogging like any other lane.

As residents of Ghodbunder Road wait for the showers to put an end to the sweltering heat, there is also the fear of being trapped on waterlogged roads. "Rains will provide us respite from this heat. But the waterlogged roads would bring traffic to a standstill," said resident C N Shetty.

The slope near Manpada flyover is where two-to-three-feet-deep water gets accumulated every rainy season. "Even normal rain is enough to flood this road," he said.

Rickshaw driver Santosh Pandey, whose monsoon is spent negotiating waterlogged roads in Thane, said , "This entire stretch gets submerged in three-feet water and the road is closed till it drains out."

"Only the road going to Thane remains operational for two-way traffic," he said.

Shetty said the D-Mart area at Ghodbunder Road faces the same situation. "The TMC claims they have taken measures to ensure there won't be waterlogging. But let it rain and you will see the farcical claim," he said.
