MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government is considering a proposal to give a posting to former Punjab DGP S S Virk as a Director General level post is vacant since March.
This was conveyed by the state government to the Central Administrative Tribunal here.
Virk was repatriated to Maharashtra as he belongs to the state cadre. At present he doesn't hold any post.
Virk was suspended from the post of Punjab DGP following allegations of corruption levelled against him. However, the Mumbai CAT has earlier stayed Virk's suspension.
Affidavit filed by state home department says that giving posting to Virk and payment of full salary from the date of his repatriation is "under consideration".
Meanwhile, the hearing before the CAT here was adjourned till June 6, Virk's lawyer Sandip Marne said.
Marne also denied media reports that principal bench of CAT at New Delhi has stayed the proceedings in Mumbai wing of the tribunal.
"Proceedings can continue, the principal bench has only restrained the CAT-Mumbai from pronouncing the judgement," said Marne.
After Chandigarh CAT quashed Virk's suspension, Punjab government secured a stay to it from Punjab and Haryana High Court. Virk has challenged the stay before the Supreme Court.
The Apex court is likely to take up the matter next week.
