India’s one of the richest temple trusts, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust (TTDT), is all set to go green.
From now onwards, the devotees coming to the temple will get ‘Prasadam’ in bio-degradable bags.
TTDT has signed a deal with Greendiamz Biotech Ltd to supply such bio-degradable bags. As per the deal the company will be supplying 25 lakh bags, every month to the holy place.
The deal comes after TTDT, decided to ban the use of plastic bags in the temple premises in order to show its solidarity towards making the place environmentally sustainable.
“It gives us immense honour and pleasure to be working with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam Trust. Our company is blessed to be working with the temple trust. This would be our service to all devotees who come for the darshan and contribute in a small way to keep it environment friendly,”said Dipack Sangghvi, director, Greendiamz Biotech Ltd.
“We would also like to thank the temple authorities for believing in us and the product,” he added.
These bags which will be made of 30-micron thick material and it will not get affected by ghee, oil or moisture. It gets decomposed in 180 days after coming in contact with soil. The products have been tested and certified by various organisations such as European Standard EN 13432 and other organisations like CIPET (Chennai), Indian Institute of packaging (Mumbai) and BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards).
“More than 50,000 devotees visit the Tirupati Balaji temple daily and on weekends the number crosses a lakh. The usage of these bags will make a huge impact to reduce the use of plastic bags,” said Sangghvi.
