MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Monday issued notice to social activist Anna Hazare in a matter related to recruitment for 'battiwala' post in Pune Municipal Corporation.

Ulhas Ghanekar, President of Nagri Hakka Bachao Manch, an NGO, had written a letter to the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh complaining of alleged corruption in process for recruitment of battiwalas (street lamp maintenance staff) at PMC in August this year.

The Chief Minister, in turn, wrote to the Corporation and stayed the recruitment.

One Vilas Ekbote, who was aspirant for Battiwala's job, has filed petition in the High Court, seeking that the stay be lifted.

Along with the Chief Minister and the PMC, he has made Hazare a party to the petition, because the NGO's letterhead mentions that Hazare was one of its consultants.

Petition states that Chief Minister stayed the recruitment at Hazare's behest.

Hearing of the case has been adjourned till the next month.
