Home minister RR Patil on Friday claimed to have made headway in the Pune blast case and said details would be revealed by his department soon. He also announced an enquiry against Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi for the latter’s visit to relatives of the suspected terrorists arrested by the ATS earlier this week.
Patil, while speaking to the media on Friday, told the lower house that there was no need for transfer of the Pune blast case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The opposition had demanded that the case be tried by the CBI after accusing the home department of not making any headway in the Pune case even after one-and-a-half months.
“ATS, with the help of teams from eight other states, is on the right investigative path and will be able to solve the case very soon. The home department will never hesitate to hand over the investigation to the CBI, but this is not the appropriate time to do so,” he told the house. Soon after, he told media that the ATS had found key clues in the case and would solve it shortly.
Responding to the opposition’s claim of an alert from the Centre in the Pune blast case, Patil said there was no specific input. “In the past 365 days, we have received 349 alerts from intelligence agencies. The general alert about the attack at Chhabad House next to German bakery was received and security beefed up at the spot,” he said.
Meanwhile, reacting to the enquiry instituted by Patil, Azmi said, “There have been cases of arrests of innocent people in the past. I just wanted to check on the possibility.”
