Heavy rains today lashed the city affecting road and rail traffic and causing waterlogging in the suburbs.

The rainfall recorded in suburban Santa Cruz was 94.3mm whereas the observatory at Colaba in South Mumbai received 83.7mm rainfall, the meteorological department said.

Train services were affected with services running late by 20-25 minutes on both the Western and Central lines, railway officials said.

Waterlogging was observed in parts of suburban Malad, Vikhroli, Andheri, Kurla, Hindmata at Dadar, and Chembur in Central Mumbai.

Other parts of Maharashtra also witnessed heavy showers with Gagan Bavada tehsil in Kolhapur district receiving 186mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Normal life was disrupted in many parts and several dams were filled almost to capacity.

Farmers were happy as many minor and major irrigation projects, which were left dry, benefited from the incessant rains.
