Customs officials on Thursday seized heroin valued at Rs 2.5 crore at the international airport here and arrested a foreigner.

MUMBAI: Customs officials on Thursday seized heroin valued at Rs 2.5 crore at the international airport here and arrested a foreigner.

"The Customs Air Intelligence Unit officials on suspicion intercepted one passenger of foreign origin who was to depart for Addis Ababa by Ethopian Airlines. Examination of his zipper bag resulted in recovery of heroin on August 25," an official release said.

The heroin, concealed in the false bottom of the bag, weighed 2.5 kg and valued at Rs five lakh in local market and Rs 2.5 crore in the international market, it said.

The passenger's statement has been recorded wherein he has admitted possession, carriage, concealment and recovery of the drug," the release said.

He has been booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, it said, adding further investigation in the case was in progress, it said.
