Unidentified thieves broke into an apartment and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs2.5lakh on Saturday night.

Almost every possible security measure was in place in the plush housing society at Hiranandani, Powai, including CCTV cameras and security guards keeping a close watch on each visitor.

But even these measures weren’t enough as unidentified thieves broke into an apartment and decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs2.5lakh on Saturday night.

Police said the thieves struck when the owner, Subhrabitan Das, his wife and son had gone out to visit Durga pandals.

Das told police he had left with his family at around 7pm and returned a little after midnight. “After reaching home, my wife discovered all her jewellery in the cupboard was missing,” said Das. He immediately called police and registered a complaint at the Powai police station.

When the police came to the building, they were surprised to find that none of the CCTVs gave any clues about the robbers.

“The thieves seemed to know the building well. It is possible that they used the pipeline to enter the house,” said a senior police officer. “We are probing if the thieves had duplicate keys,” he added.

Surprisingly, the robbers did not take away Das’s laptop and camera lying around.
