Relatives of the staff killed at Oberoi-Trident during 26/11 alleged that they are still to receive a large part of the financial help promised to them.

Soon after the November 26 attacks last year, the two hotels — Oberoi-Trident and Taj —  had announced compensatory assistance to the legal heirs of the employees that were killed by the terrorists.

However, five months later, relatives of the staff killed at Oberoi-Trident alleged that they are still to receive a large part of the financial help promised to them.

The hotel had assured Rs10 lakh, 10 years’ salary of the employee, Rs5,000 per month towards the children’s education and assistance from the funds raised through Oberoi Care Fund.

However, a relative of one of the deceased employees told DNA that they were given Rs10 lakh apart from the obvious dues such as provident funds, gratuity and insurance cover. “The amount includes the voluntary contribution of 1% by other employees. That  comes to Rs1.67 lakh.”

A relative of another employee said that the compensation was far less than the one given by Taj.

While admitting that part of the compensation was still to be paid, the hotel management said that the gratuity, leave encashment, employees voluntary contribution had been paid. “We also facilitated the government compensation, PF disbursement, workmen’s compensation, insurance cover and assured that the amounts have been given to the employees’ kin,” said Devendra Bharma, executive VP, Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, Mumbai.

He said the monthly compensation and commitment towards children’s education is also being disbursed.
