Thackeray said, 'It is over a decade since Ma left us. But thousands of Sainiks still remember her with the same affection and reverence.'

Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Monday expressed his gratitude and appealed to party workers to continue their battle for dignity as spontaneously displayed by them after the desecration of late Meenatai’s statue at Shivaji Park on Sunday. Meenatai was the wife of Bal Thackeray.

Thackeray said, “It is over a decade since Ma left us. But thousands of Shiv Sainiks still remember her with the same affection and reverence.”

Sena workers staged angry protests beyond Maharashtra in Varanasi, Goa, Delhi, Chattisgarh and Gujarat.

“I have no words to express my gratitude to the thousands of Sainiks who voluntarily came out on streets and demonstrated their ire.

“This only shows how much affection and respect the Sainiks have for Ma. She was truly a mother figure. Let the critics say anything they want. It only shows their upbringing,” said Thackeray.

He made a special mention about the role played by the Sena’s women wing.

The women members kept aside their domestic chores and assembled near the statue. They spent the entire night to stage their protest.
