Owing to the improved student- teacher ratio and reforms in the  International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), international school students in the city have managed to shine in the IGCSE results, which were declared on Friday.

For the first time, three students from Jamnabai Narsee School in Vile Parle have scored a perfect 100 percentile in all five subjects, while other schools too have plenty of high scorers as well.

Soham Sankaran, Yash Savani and Nirja Shah, class X students from Jamnabai managed to bag perfect scores in all five subjects.

“I studied for one and half month before the exam but still managed a perfect score. The reason is that in IGCSE, if you listen to what is taught in class and complete your projects in time, you can finish studying faster.  It is a very application oriented syllabus,’’ said Soham Sankaran, 15, one of the toppers.
Sankaran now plans to complete his IB and go abroad for his graduation studies. ‘’I want to pursue a doctorate in robotics or electronics.”

According to Sudeshna Chatterjee, principal of Jamnabai, one of the major reasons for the students getting such high scores is the improved student teacher ratio. “In the IGCSE section, there are maximum 25 students per class, and in some classes it might be as low as 10 or 15. This helps teachers in giving individualised attention to students,’’ she said.

Similarly, 63 students of Utpal Sanghvi School scored cent percent marks in individual subjects. 187 students got A stars, 46 got distinction, and 31 students bagged a merit.

Abha Pal, principal of the school, attributed the results to students absorbing the international pattern of studying which focuses on learning to think. “This year, a record number of students have come out in flying colours only because they have learnt how to apply their knowledge,” she said.

Out of 65 students who appeared for the IGCSE examination from the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, all have done exceptionally well by giving 100% results with good scores. 87.4% have achieved A-stars’s and A’s, as against the world average of around 35%. 51% achieved the perfect score of 100% in 12 of the 18 subjects they appeared for. 43% of the students achieved 7A-stars’s and above, which is the highest ever for the school in the past six years.
