More than 150 students of ILS Law College on Wednesday formed a 1-km-long human chain to express their solidarity with anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

Raising anti-government slogans, the students vowed to back Hazare whole-heartedly in his crusade against corruption. All of them wore the traditional attire worn by the lawyers: black coats and trousers.

The human chain, which started from Cafe Mocha stretched till Barista, a cafe situated near the National Film Archive of India traffic signal on Law College Road.

Jyotirmay Deshmukh, the coordinator of the human rights cell of ILS, who was instrumental in organising the event, said he garnered support from college mates with the help of Facebook.

“I started an event page on Facebook on the eve of our protest and about 100 students pledged to take part in it. But over 150 were present to take part in the event,’’ he added.

Although the police had not given permission to the students to organise the human chain, the college authorities gave their nod to the students to go ahead with the event.

Deshmukh, the student co-ordinator, was dressed in white attire with a khadi jacket as he led the protest.
