India's first proposed high-speed Metro corridor between Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport will also be the first Metro corridor that will be operational round the clock including night hours, making it India's first Metro corridor to run round the clock on all 365 days.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) that is executing the project has said that the high-speed Metro corridor will run round the clock on all days considering its purpose is to cater to flyers landing later at night and wanting to travel between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai to board connecting flights.
"The schedule for the Metro high-speed corridor connecting Mumbai and Navi Mumbai airport will be having Metro trains running even late in the night, considering it is a dedicated line for the airport. This particular Metro corridor also passes through many residential locations in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, which will also help flyers to reach their homes late in the night," said a senior MMRDA official.
Currently, in case of the dedicated line of Delhi Airport Metro, the services run for almost 20 hours, with it having services between 4.45 am to 11.30 pm. The senior MMRDA official added, "ln case of Mumbai Airport Metro, we will have services operational even in the late night hours, however, the frequency will not be not equal to that of during the daytime."
The dedicated Airport Metro corridor will also connect with Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor and the Airport to Dahisar east Metro corridor. Further, the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airport Metro corridor is also going to be a high-speed Metro corridor that will run at a higher speed than that of other Metro corridors planned in the city.
Meanwhile, some of the stations in the route of this Metro corridor will be Santacruz, Chembur, and Vashi, from where it will merge with the proposed CST-Panvel elevated corridor being constructed by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation.
