The 14th edition of Enduro3 The Adventure Race, the biggest adventure race in India, will be held on February 6 and 7 in Pune. Spanning over 250 kilometers, the race includes trekking, mountain cycling, kayaking, river crossing, rappelling and rifle shooting among other things.

Split into various categories, Enduro3 is a multi-diciplainry team race. A team should comprise three people, with at least one member of the opposite sex. All team members must be of a minimum age of 16. The registration fees for the race is Rs7,500 for the open category, and the last date of registration is January 28. The winning team of the open category will take home Rs50,000 while the second and third place team will pocket Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000, respectively.

Before the race, there is an orientation session which, according to race organiser Prasad Purandare, is really important. "There are two different formats of this race: disclosed and undisclosed route. We hold the race in the undisclosed format. The participants come to know of the route only on the race day, and that is why orienting matters," the 58-year-old Purandare said.

With more than 200 teams participating over the last few years, Purandare expects a similar turnout this time around as well.

"People who have participated before keep waiting for the race every year. When they participate, they keep cursing me, because it's tougher than last year. But then they come back saying, 'wow, you made us touch another height, and it's wonderful'," he said.
