IndiGo makes emergency landing at city airport

Full emergency was declared at the airport after which the aircraft made an emergency landing, and all passengers were safely deboarded

An IndiGo flight (6E565) travelling from Mumbai to Bengaluru with 171 passengers and 4 crew made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport minutes after take-off late on Tuesday night. The reason was cited to be technical failure in the aircraft’s engine. 

Mumbai airport sources said the technical failure led to complete engine failure.

Full emergency was declared at the airport after which the aircraft made an emergency landing, and all passengers were safely deboarded. Susbequently, alternative travel arrangements were made for the flyers.

An Indigo spokesperson said, “IndiGo flight 6E 565 (BOM- BLR) faced a technical issue while airborne. Following all standard operating procedures, the pilot immediately took the precautionary measure to return to Mumbai for necessary checks. An alternate aircraft was provided for completion of the flight.”

The spokesperson added, “The matter has been already brought to the notice of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and is being investigated by the IndiGo flight safety department. At IndiGo, safety and security of the passengers, crew and the aircraft is of top priority - and at no time was it compromised.”
