A 65-year-old woman who was allegedly raped by a priest of the Arya Samaj temple two years ago, registered a complaint against the rapist after being inspired by a television crime show. The accused had approached the court for bail, which was granted on Wednesday, as the investigation was completed and that the custody of the man was no more required.

The woman in her complainant said that while watching a crime show on TV, she learned of the fact that no matter how old the crime of rape is, a woman at any point of time can approach the police and register an FIR.

A music teacher by profession, she would regularly visit the Arya Samaj temple and was a true devotee. It was then that she got acquainted with Ramtirth Shastri, who expressed his desire to attend her house to learn music along with her other students.

Shastri committed the first offecse in January 2016. He allegedly tried to force himself on her in 2017, but after she resisted, the accused threatened her of dire consequences. The woman in her complaint said that she was too afraid to approach the police at that time.
