A newlywed couple who flew in from Jaipur by IndiGo Airlines on Thursday was shocked to find that their bag containing designer clothes, including bridal wear, worth about Rs4 lakh was missing. The airline has told them that they would get Rs3,000 as compensation, according to the weight of the baggage.
Amit Khandelwal, 28, and Anubha, 24, landed in Mumbai in IndiGo’s 6E 323 flight after they got married in Jaipur on July 14. “We had personally checked in four bags in Jaipur. But when we reached Mumbai, there were only three on the conveyor belt,” said Amit.
On Friday, the couple left for Goa for their honeymoon, leaving Amit’s sister Amruta to enquire for the bag. “The airline staff said they had not received any such bag and that we would get Rs3,000 as compensation,” she said. Bruce Ashby, president and CEO of IndiGo, said, “We will do everything possible to ensure that our customers’ bag arrives safe and sound. In our two years of operations, we have mishandled only a very small percentage of bags - in fact, less than one bag per 1,00,000 passengers. Our normal process is to implement a careful search before concluding that a bag is, in fact, lost.”
