Two jail inmates have been booked for the alleged murder of an undertrial in Central prison premises here, police said today. An undertrial Mukesh Devidas Chankapure, 25, was strangulated by jail inmates sometime during night on October 12. He was rushed to Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, they said.

Initially, a case of accidential death was reported. However, post mortem revealed strangulation as the cause of death, police said. On receiving the medical report, jail authorities informed Dhantoli police under whose jurisdiction the jail falls.

An offence was registered under the relevant sections against the jail inmates. Two inmates namely Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Nathu and Arvind Itankar and others were named as prime suspects in the case yesterday. Dhantoli police is investigating the case.
