JJ Hospital dean promoted; says he prefers serving poor

Levelling allegations, resident doctors at JJ had demanded Lahane's ouster

Dean of J J Hospital here Dr T P Lahane was on Friday promoted as the Acting Director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, but he said that he would rather serve the poor at the government-run hospital.

"I received my transfer order as the Acting Director at DMER today. But since it is a temporary promotion for 360 days, I would rather serve the poor patients at JJ hospital than be promoted," Dr Lahane, a Padma Shri awardee, said, adding that still, he is studying the transfer order.

Recently, resident doctors at J J Hospital had demanded Dr Lahane's ouster after some doctors from Ophthalmology Department made certain allegations against him.

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors too had backed the demand.
