Kareena is Transgender Miss India

Organised by the Indian Community Welfare Organisation (ICWO), Unaids, and Action Aid, the contest was the first of its kind in the country.

Transgenders from across the country vied for a beauty crown during a contest in Chennai on Saturday. Kareena Shaline of Mumbai was crowned as Transgender Miss India.

“The programme has been organised to create a platform for discussing issues and rights of transgenders,” said Esther Mariaselvam, regional manager, Action Aid India.

About 120 transgenders participated in the event. The other contests held during the one-day pageant included Miss Beautiful Hair, Miss Beautiful Walk, Miss Beautiful Eyes, and Miss Best Skin.
