In order to send a strong message against rash and negligent driving across the Western Express Highway (WEH) and other important routes of the suburbs, the Kherwadi police have requested the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to suspend 300 driving licenses. The move comes after the police team took serious cognizance of complaints coming from the local residents about growing nuisance of rash driving and fatalities taking place because of rash driving.

Action is expected become more rigid in the coming times, say Kherwadi police. "Young drivers have a tendency to drive with utter negligence. WEH is more prone to accidents post midnight and sometimes, the accidents are fatal by nature. Local residents have grown cornered with frequency of such mishaps. We have formed special teams and enforced nakabandi across major junctions to nab errant drivers," said a police officer requesting anonymity.

As per the police reports, 47 cases were registered at Kherwadi police station pertaining to rash driving and driving with negligence in 2018 and 94 people were arrested under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act. Around 82 vehicles were seized, out of which most of them were two-wheelers.

"After getting required approval from the traffic police department, we have now requested the RTO to work on our proposal and suspend licences. We expect a positive message to be delivered to youth so that they refrain from driving irresponsibly," the officer added.
