It was a heart-wrenching scene at Ghatkopar's Rajawadi hospital on Friday evening as the relatives of victims in the Kurla fire mourned the death of their dear ones. All the eight charred bodies — six men and one woman — recovered from the burnt hotel were sent to the morgue in the hospital.
"The world collapsed for our family within minutes," said Charles Rohan, elder brother of deceased Breian Fernando (19), an engineering student who had come for lunch at Kinara hotel in Kurla along with his friends. "I was supposed to meet him, but he told me to go home as he was held up in some work. I never imagined that I was not going to see him ever again; my brother was too young to die," said Rohan, crying inconsolably.
Akshay Thappar's friend Homeed Ali said "Akshay was a very humble person. He was very career oriented and would always tell us that he wanted to be successful and wanted to take care of his parents. It will be a tough time for Akshay's parents who were hoping that he would to turn out to be a successful engineer."
Mother of Taha Shaikh, whose world came to a standstill since the moment the news of her only son's death was broken, said: "I have no reason to live anymore, he was my only son. He had been eating in this hotel regularly and I never thought something like this would happen," said the heartbroken mother.
"I can give away anything to get my son back, but that will never happen. God has been so harsh on me," she added.
