NAGPUR: The authorities of Nagpur division of Central Railway here have suspended a locomotive pilot and an assistant pilot for their alleged negligence by crossing the danger signal while driving an express train, official sources said on Tuesday.

The suspended duo overshot the danger signal at the outer of Nagpur Railway station on Saturday, they said.

The train, 2406 Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bhusaval Gondwana Express, was approaching platform Number 6 where 2105 down Mumbai-Nagpur-Gondia Vidarbha Express was already standing and awaiting signal to proceed, sources said.

Loco pilot C C Pine and his assistant pilot O P Sharma were prima facie found guilty of overshooting the red signal and thus placed under suspension yesterday as per the laid down procedure, a spokesman of the Nagpur division of Central Railway said.

Gondwana Express was, however, brought to halt 200 metres from the stationary Vidarbha Express, thereby averting a head-on collision. But their negligence cannot be overlooked, he added.

Meanwhile, the preliminary enquiry found that Route Relay Interlocking system data showed it worked perfectly, activated red signal and was visible clearly from long distance.

A three-member team of top officials from operating, signal and telcommunication and electrical branches has been formed to submit its final report, the spokesman added.
