A 25-year-old man was arrested on Friday for killing his 17-year-old paramour by spiking her cold drink with poison in the name of giving her an abortion pill and then hanging her from the ceiling fan to make it look like a suicide.
Shankar Kashinath Bhogade from Jahwar in Palghar, Thane (rural), is married. He developed a sexual relationship with the 11th standard student after his wife introduced her to him. When she conceived, the girl kept demanding for abortion pills or money to undergo an abortion.
On July 19, Bhogade called her to a hotel room, promising to give her abortion pills. After having sex with her, he offered her a cold drink. Within minutes, she began vomiting and collapsed. Bhogade hung her from the ceiling fan and projected her death as suicide, the police said.
"We initially registered a case of accidental death. But during investigations we found an Aadhar card and her mobile phone," Keshavrao Naik, inspector, Jahwar police station said. "We found Bhogade's number after going through the call data records. He confessed to the crime during interrogation."
"We have arrested him under Sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) of the IPC and under Sections 4 and 8 of the prevention of children from sexual offences act. He has been remanded in police custody till August 1.
