The weekend forecast of 'few spells of rain' from the India Meteorological department (IMD) will be in force for the next two days for Pune city.
However, the development of a low pressure area (LPA) over north-west Madhya Pradesh will result in fairly widespread rainfall over entire Gujarat, east Rajasthan and western Madhya Pradesh.
IMD's director for weather forecasting, Medha Khole, told DNA on Monday that the LPA will also result in fairly widespread rainfall over north Madhya Maharashtra, bordering Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
On the other hand, Khole said that the offshore trough lying between south Goa and Kerala was still intact and that this would continue to promise fairly widespread rainfall for the entire western coast of India, including Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.
The presence of the offshore trough would result in scattered rainfall across Marathwada and fairly widespread precipitation over Vidarbha.
North, north-east and east India will receive fairly widespread rainfall in the next 48 hours, while interior peninsular India, which covers parts of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, will receive subdued rainfall.
