Maharashtra govt agrees to Medha Patkar’s demands

The government has agreed to stay the demolition of the house in the Ganeshkripa Society in Santa Cruz till June 15 , besides the agreement of setting up a committee to enquire into 15 other cases of the Slum Rehabilitation schemes with the irregularities.

State government agreed upon most of the demands put up by social activist Medha Patkar, who is on hunger strike for  last seven days.

The government has agreed to stay the demolition of the house in the Ganeshkripa Society in Santa Cruz till June 15 , besides the agreement of setting up a committee to enquire into 15 other cases of the Slum Rehabilitation schemes with the irregularities.

She also had demanded to restrict the use of provisions of section 3K of slum  act, besides  her demand for declaration of slums and carrying out improvement works. However, the government did not agree to the demand of extending the cut-off date of the slums to January 1, 2000.
