Maharashtra govt signs MoU with Singapore firm for security in metro trains

This measure has been taken in the wake of blasts that took place in Mumbai metro local trains in 2006, chief minister Ashok Chavan said.

To provide security to commuters in its metro trains, Maharashtra government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a Singapore government undertaking firm.
       
This measure has been taken in the wake of blasts that took place in Mumbai metro local trains in 2006, chief minister Ashok Chavan said here today.

"The Maharashtra government has signed an MOU with Minota, a government undertaking of Singapore government for complete
security cover of metro trains," Chavan, who is here to campaign for Zilla Parishad elections in Bhandara and Gondia, told reporters.

He said work on Mono and Metro rails in Mumbai was going on a fast pace and would be completed in phases by 2012 and 2014 respectively and the government was concerned over providing security to the commuters in both.
       
Talking about other projects that came up for discussion and finalisation during his just concluded oversees visit, Chavan said Maharashtra government was looking to Singapore's help in setting up Sea Water desalination project which will help to overcome drinking water crisis.

The Singapore government was making best use of sea water. Though the technology is quite expensive the government was keen to acquire the technology, Chavan said.
