Fifty-two people have died in Maharashtra due to swine flu till Sunday, revealed data provided by the state's public health department. Also, a drastic change in weather sparked off the cases.
A committee meeting that was held on Saturday confirmed the number of deaths. The highest number of casualty has been reported from Nashik district (15 deaths), followed by Nagpur (nine death) and Pune (six death).
According to the recent data released by the health department, around 5,28,414 people have been screened for swine flu of which 675 patients were confirmed. Around 11 people from Pune and two from Nagpur were put on ventilators.
Three deaths were reported each from Amravati, Pune rural and Mumbai till Sunday. Simultaneously, Kolhapur, Aurangabad and Satara also reported two deaths each.
Other districts like Sindhudurg, Bandhara, Jalgaon, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Vasai Virar, and Palghar have reported one death each.
Till February, nearly 547 people were diagnosed with the flu.
"There are no different precautionary measures taken to prevent H1N1 cases in the state. A majority of cases and deaths are reported in the Nashik, Pune, Nagpur regions in comparison to other districts of the state," said Dr Pradeep Awate, state surveillance officer, Public Health Department.
Swine flu is caused by the H1N1 virus. Its symptoms include fever, cough, body ache, nasal secretions, headache, fatigue, loose motions, and weakness.
