Maharashtra's FDA seizes adulterated food worth Rs 3 lakh across Mumbai

According to FDA officials, during the visit, they inspected edible oil, mawa, milk, paneer, and few sweet items along with other raw food material.

A two-day inspection drive conducted by Maharashtra's Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Department on food manufacturing units, resulted in the seizure of adulterated food worth more than Rs 3 lakh. The surprise inspection was carried out in various areas across the city at Borivali, Kurla, Dharavi, and Hay Bunder Road.

According to FDA officials, during the visit, they inspected edible oil, mawa, milk, paneer, and few sweet items along with other raw food material.

Speaking about the initiative, Shailesh Adhav, Joint Commissioner, Food (Mumbai region), said, "Food products worth Rs 3 lakh have been seized from manufacturing units across the city. We have collected 12 samples from the seized products; they have been sent for testing in the laboratory for further investigation."

He added, "We inspected five food manufacturing units in the city and will be inspecting more in the coming days. After we get the test report, action will be taken against the owners of those shops."

In Borivali (E), the FDA seized adulterated food products worth Rs 1,22,780. In Borivali (W), food product worth Rs 6,240 was seized. The products included paneer, milk, and mawa.

In Hay Bunder Road, food products worth Rs 1,31,295 were seized. In Kurla, sweets, barfi, and mawa worth Rs 16,336 were seized.

In Dharavi, food products such as farsan worth Rs 26,750 were seized.

He further said, "Citizens should buy branded and packaged food products and sweets with appropriate labeling from shops. Such products are in high demand during the festival season. Citizens should buy food products carefully."

To control the food adulteration issue, FDA has started a special toll-free number for the citizens to file complaints about adulteration.
