Punam Sonawane, 21, was stabbed, allegedly by her former boyfriend, on Tuesday for not keeping in touch with him after he got married.
The police identified the assailant as Kuldeep Dhumal, a resident of Maulinagar.
He has been booked for attempt to murder, assault and criminal intimidation after victim’s elder sister Madhuri Naik, 26, a resident of Mumbai, filed a complaint at Bharati Vidyapeeth police station on Tuesday. Naik is working as a lecturer in Mumbai.
Poonam, who holds a degree in pharmacy, is undergoing treatment at Bharati Hospital and Medical College.
Inspector (crime) Sunil Yadav, who is investigating the case, told DNA, “Punam hails from Indapur and has a degree in pharmacy. She came to Pune three years ago and was working as a saleswoman at Dhankavdi-based Honda showroom. She met Kuldeep at the showroom two years ago when he had come to purchase a vehicle. Later, their friendship turned into love.
“In January this year, Punam’s mother expired and she went to Indapur. On her return to Pune three months later, she came to know that Kuldeep had married another girl. She stopped all communication with Kuldeep but he was forcing her continue communication with her. She had filed a non-cognisable case against him in the past.’’
“On Tuesday, around 8.15pm, when Punam was returning home on her two-wheeler along with the complainant, the suspect stopped them by parking his bike in front of their vehicle. He asked her why she had not kept any communication with her. He stabbed her twice on her rib and ear.’’
