Deputy mayor, Deepak Mankar, said he would try to get the Shivshrushti project executed on priority.

The newly-elected mayor, Vaishali Bankar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and deputy mayor Deepak Mankar of the Congress pledged to work for “the development of the city” during their tenure. While Bankar zeroed in on carbon footprints for the city, Mankar promised to get the Shivshrushti project executed in Kothrud on first priority.

Elaborating on her agenda for her tenure of one-and-half years, Bankar said she would try to solve the problems of public transport. She also said she would put in efforts to ensure 100% treatment of sewage water and 24-hour water supply.

“I would ensure that proper attention is given to protection of the environment and we get carbon credits for the works we undertake,” she said.

Mankar, whose alleged criminal record had led to an uproar, listed completion of Shivshrushti on 28 acres of land of the erstwhile Kothrud garbage depot as his first priority.

Referring to the controversy surrounding his nomination, Mankar claimed  he had never done anything wrong in his life.

“I will ensure proper coordination is established between the administration and corporators for better development of the area,” he said.
