An MBA student allegedly jumped to death from the terrace of his six-storey building in Santa Cruz on Sunday morning. Police said they had not found any suicide note.
According to the police, Vivek Bhandarkar, 24, a second year student of IIPM College in Bandra (West), lived with his parents and elder sister at Aashith Apartment in Juhu Koliwada, Santa Cruz (West).

“After going through his mobile phone and computer records, we believe Bhandarkar was romantically involved with a girl,” said Madhukar Chaudhary, senior inspector, Santa Cruz police station. “However, their relationship went sour. We are investigating whether this was the reason he decided to end his life.”

On Sunday, around 9:15am, Bhandarkar jumped from the terrace of his building. On hearing the noise, a few neighbours rushed to the spot and found Bhandarkar lying in a pool of blood. They immediately informed his parents and the police.

The police reached the spot at 9:40am and took the body to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem.

“We have conducted the panchnama. We have also spoken to the youth’s father, Krishna Bhandarkar, and the neighbours who first discovered the body,” said sub-inspector Firoj Pathan.

“Krishna works in the Merchant Navy as a captain. He was at the Mazgaon dock when the incident took place,” Pathan said.

The police learnt that Bhandarkar was going through a rough time for the past year. “For two months, he had been visiting a psychiatrist for treatment. He wouldn’t interact with his family. He mostly shouted at his parents if they tried to talk to him or if they came to his room unannounced,” Pathan said.
