Minimum temperatures rose marginally in Mumbai but continued to be below normal by a sharp margin in the island city as well as the suburbs.
According to data collected from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai, the temperatures for island city and suburbs were 21.1 degrees Celsius and 16.3 degrees Celsius, and 29.5 degrees Celsius and 11.3 degrees Celsius respectively.
Unlike Sunday which saw both the maximum and minimum temperatures fall by an average of 3 degrees, on Monday, the fall was less uniform and diverse. And the sharpest fall below normal — 11.3 degrees Celsius at Santa Cruz — was also lesser than that recorded on Sunday.
IMD officials attributed the persistent low temperatures to the freezing northerly winds blowing from Jammu and Kashmir and other regions and estimated that the minimum temperatures will continue to remain in the current range. “The minimum temperature will continue to remain in the range of 11 and 12 degrees Celsius at Santa Cruz for the next two days,” said VK Rajeev, director, IMD.
