He asked for money to let MET develop open space
The Mumbai Educational Trust (MET) has accused local corporator Raja Rehbar Khan of extortion in the name of preserving an open space.
MET alleged that Khan had asked for Rs10 lakh from its on-duty supervisor Nilesh Shahu for suppressing the issue of a tennis court and a jogging track proposed to be built by MET on a municipal ground.
Shahu said Khan was trying to sabotage the development of the open space, which was as per BMC’s approved plans and conformed with Bombay high court’s order.
MET will file a contempt petition against Khan for breach of the court’s orders. “They raised frivolous issues to stop work on the playground,” said Sunil Karve, founder trustee and vice chairman of MET.
Khan said, “The allegations are baseless. They are doing things which are against public interest.”
