Mumbai Metro rail between Versova and Ghatkopar is the first metro in the globe that will have sniffer dogs patrolling every station. This is what Metro One Private Limited, the agency that is implementing the metro project has claimed.
Due to heightened security and constant terror threats in a metropolis like Mumbai, the Reliance Infrastructure led Mumbai Metro One Private Limited on Friday announced that it will be the first metro rail in the world with dedicated sniffer dogs and hand-held explosive detectors at each of its 12 stations.
The statement released by MMOPL reads: “Trained sniffer dogs will patrol each of the stations. There will be security guards in civilian dress who will intermingle with the public to check for any suspicious activity outside and inside the station premises.”
After studying security aspects, it was decided to undertake several security measures, some of which include 700 real-time CCTV cameras at strategic locations, random armed patrolling by Quick Response Team, guards, designing stations in such a way that there is no hidden place where explosives can be kept.
Every passenger entering the stations will be frisked and their baggage will be put through X-ray scanners.
Besides private security guards who will be deployed by Reliance Infrastructure, the state government has decided that it will also have security from Maharashtra State Security Corporation.
