Studies, not sports had always taken the centre stage in our country. Thus, if one had to choose between participating in an international sports event and board exams if dates clash, one had to choose the boards.

Putting an end to the dilemma, Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that students representing India in an international sports event recognized by Sports Authority can give their board exams later. The date will be decided by the student and board (before the declaration of results) as per their convenience.

A circular on the same was issued to all school principals affiliated to CBSE board on Wednesday.

The circular brought a big relief to students who were unable to pursue their dreams and represent India internationally. Earlier this year, CBSE has provided this facility to nine students appearing for March-April 2018 board exam.

Lauding the move, Raj Aloni, principal of Ramsheth Thakur Public High School, Kharghar, said, "This move will encourage many students to take up sports."

Such students can make a request in writing to the CBSE through their schools along with the recommendations from the Sports Authority of India informing about their participation along with the dates. Schools have been requested to communicate such cases to the respective regional office of the CBSE by 31 January 2019. Schools have also been requested by the board to spread this information among students who actively participate in sports.

While CBSE students get such facility, the students of the state board also expect the state government to come up with such facilities for them.
