April 26, 2011, 12 pm… This is the time the birth record of newly-elected Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) candidate Priya Shivaji Gadade-Patil was changed to suit her needs, claim officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) health department. PMC medical officer ST Pardeshi said a notice was  issued to an employee  in the health department’s birth and death certificate registration section, asking why action should not be taken against him for changing the birth record. Gadade-Patil was touted as the youngest corporator to win the polls at the age of 21. Her victory from Janata Vasahat, i.e. Panel 56 (B) is in a  controversy after a complaint was registered with the PMC stating that her birth certificate was false. The complainant claimed  her actual date of birth is September 5, 1991 and not September 5, 1990 as mentioned in her birth certificate. “On receiving the complaint, we launched an inquiry. It was found in the computer records that a certain employee’s login was used to log into the birth records on April 26, 2011, at 12 pm. The person changed the birth certificate record of the corporator on that day,” said Pardeshi. He said a notice was sent to the employee asking him to reply within 24 hours why action should not be taken.  “March 3 is the deadline for his reply,” added Pardeshi. If the forgery is proven, Gadade-Patil might lose her seat as she would not fulfil the minimum age criterion to hold the corporator’s post. Gadade-Patil refused to comment on the controversy.
