The MNS, after its son of the soil campaign and targeting the north Indians, may in the end field a North Indian for the October 13 elections.

If Raees Lashkariya manages to win the election from Andheri (W), his victory will be remembered for years to come as the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), after its son of the soil campaign and targeting the north Indians, may in the end field him for the October 13 elections.

However, his nomination has left the party workers disappointed and frustrated. “Lashkariya’s name was finalised after much debate on Wednesday evening. The formal announcement of his candidature will be made on Thursday,” an MNS official said.

A heavyweight builder Lashkariya comes from Rajasthan. The MNS workers feel that his candidature will have an adverse effect on party’s fortunes for two reasons. “First, he is a north Indian. Rajsaheb (Thackeray) had announced that Marathis will be his priority in the election. We will have to face an embarrassing situation when we will seek votes for Lashkariya. Second, and more serious thing is that Lashkariya allegedly paid a huge amount to a close aid of Rajsaheb for the ticket,” a worker said.

MNS president Raj Thackeray in a recent interview had said, “My candidate will be a good human.”
