Soon students in Mumbai will have access to lectures, counsellors, museums, art and science centres all over the state in the comfort of their classrooms. The Maharashtra state council for education research and technology (MSCERT) has developed a tele-education and distance learning project using video conferencing that will connect 448 locations in the state.
This project would prove to be extremely beneficial even to students in remote locations like Gadchiroli, Nanded, Kolhapur as they will be able to attend lectures, take extra coaching classes virtually. The project also has counsellors and expert doctors who will give advice to troubled students, thus helping to bring down suicide rates in the state.
This one of its kind projects costing Rs19.5 crore was inaugurated by school education minister Rajendra Darda on Tuesday. The project aims to improve the literacy ratio in the state and also provide quality education to even the remotest locations, at the same time it seeks to improve government efficiency. "This project is a first of its kind in the entire Asia. It will help teachers to be in multiple places at one time, allowing students from remote areas otherwise impossible access to advanced courses," said Darda.
