Deported ‘terror suspect’ Mohammad Yusuf Mullahwala took a polygraph test at a city laboratory on Monday.
Mullahwala, 29, was deported from the US after authorities grew suspicious as he had been switching universities at random (Boston, Rhode Island and New York) to study computer science. During investigations they found some anomalies in his passport.
An ATS officer said the test was needed to find the source of his funds. Mullawalah had ‘routed’ at least Rs30 lakh from the US to his relatives here in the country. “The tests may help us find discrepancies, if any, in his versions,” said a senior ATS officer.
The ATS is still to prove his terror links. ATS officers have left for Mullahwala’s home in Kuddapally village, Andhra Pradesh, to speak to his relatives. “He is a Sunni Muslim and it seems he is not affiliated to any radical Islamic jihadist organisation sponsored by Pakistan,” said another officer looking into the investigations.
Mullahwala was interrogated in the US by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s counter terrorism branch.
