From Friday, visitors to Byculla zoo can treat themselves with 3D documentaries on wildlife. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will launch its newly built 3D theater located inside Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, popularly known as Byculla zoo, starting February 1. The entry fee will be Rs. 50 for commoners and free for BMC school students.
The BMC has tied up with wildlife channel Animal Planet to showcase documentaries with 3-dimensional experience in the theatre that can accommodate 200 people. The duration of each movie is 40 minutes and there will be 4 shows in a day from 11 am till 4 p.m.
Animal Planet's marquee documentaries like Jawai, India's Leopard Hills, African Wild, Mysterious Wilds of India, Extinct Or Alive, and Speed of Life will be shown at the theatre.
"The initial line-up of documentaries offered to the zoo theatre are entertaining and at the same time thought-provoking emerging from the fascinating intersection of the animal, human and natural worlds," said Zulfia Waris, vice president, premium and digital networks, Discovery Communications India.
"We want to give a new-age dimension of learning led entertainment through state of the art theatre. People can see animals in their natural habitat through the documentaries," said Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta.
Under a revamp plan for Byculla zoo, authorities plan bring exotic animals to Mumbai. The number of visitors to the zoo has gone up after the entry of penguins. There are 15,000 visitors on weekday and the number doubles on a regular weekend.
