Prashant Joshi, 34, the man who had luckily escaped two previous bomb blasts at the same location, was not so lucky the third time. After his two-month-long hospitalisation following the blast at Zaveri Bazaar on July 13, Joshi was declared dead on Thursday afternoon, pushing the death toll up to 27.

Joshi, who was in the CCU (Critical care Unit) succumbed to his multiple injuries at JJ Hospital. Doctors had earlier operated on him and successfully removed shrapnel from his head.

For the past 17 years, Joshi was an executive manager at a plywood store in Zaveri Bazaar. Having finished his work, Joshi was on his way home when he was caught in the Khau Galli blast near Zaveri Bazar. His home, a humble 10 x12 room, is on the fourth floor of Narayan building, located on VP Road in Dubash Lane, Kala Ghoda.

Joshi is survived by his 30-year-old wife Ruta Joshi, seven-year-old son Monish Joshi, 29-year-old sister Bhavna Upadyay, 66-year-old mother Kalaben Joshi and a 69-year-old father Harshad Joshi.

Dr TP Lahane, dean, Sir JJ Hospital, said, “Since the day of the blast, he was in the CCU. For the past several days, he was on ventilator. Our neurosurgeon operated on him to stop the bleeding in the head. However, Prashant died on Thursday afernoon.”
