The enquiry into the recent rail collision at Kasara continued on Thursday, with at least 30 railway staff members questioned by CRS.

The enquiry into the recent rail collision at Kasara continued on Thursday, with at least 30 railway staff members questioned by Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) Chetan Bakshi. The questioning and recording of their statement is expected to continue on Friday, said the officials.

The sources said that enquiry will centre around the 40-odd questions prepared by the CRS.

During the incident, a woman was killed while scores others were injured, when a CST bound local train derailed after a loose boulder fell on the tracks, derailing the train. An express train, which happened to pass from there, collided with the local train.

HSC students to get 25 grace marks under sports quota till July 31
The state government has extended the date for giving 25 grace marks for under-19 sports persons eligible for sports quota to July 31. The extension was specially granted as large number of  HSC students were approaching the state board for granting these marks though the exams were held in February and students were supposed to apply for the sports marks till last December. The scheme of sports marks has been cancelled from this year onwards and this was the last batch of students to benefit from the quota. The state board has informed junior colleges to make the necessary changes in the marks of eligible students.

Mayor to launch tree planting drive on July 28

Mayor Sunil Prabhu on July 28 will launch BMC’s drive to plant one lakh trees across Mumbai. To begin with, the civic body will plant 5,000 plants during the campaign that will begin from Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivili.

“The tree plantation will be carried out between Borivili and Jogeshwari along western express highway and Link Road. As many as possible residents should participate in the drive,” appealed Prabhu.

Apart from chiefs of various civic panels, civic chief Sitaram Kunte will grace the event.

Pragati Express to continue Navi Mumbai run
Central Railway has decided to extend the diversion of Pune - Mumbai - Pune Pragati Express with diverted route via Diva - Panvel -Karjat to August 9. There is no change in timings and halts of the train on the diverted route.
