The city has already witnessed seven deaths and over 1300 tree and branches fall since the onset of monsoon.

Plastic waste, used water-bottles, liquor bottles and many more items were found inside a tree when a weak tree was cut in Dadar last week. It was shocking for civic officials as well as people who saw it. They started pondering how did these enter inside a tree.

The city has already witnessed seven deaths and over 1300 tree and branches fall since the onset of monsoon. Reason is very simple that trees have become week and they are felling off during rain and high wind.

Like in Dadar's tree, there is possibility that many trees in the city have become weak due to waste inside it. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Garden department says that such in huge amount of waste cannot enter in small period. "This has happened over a period of time people kept throwing garbage near trees and miscreants throw water and liquor bottle," said Kishore Kshirsagar, deputy municipal commissioner of Garden department.

Roadside eateries throw unused eatable near trees and it becomes a favourite place for rats. Rats started eating waste and also make hole inside trees. And, the process continues for a month and years. "There are miscreants who after consuming liquor hid bottle inside the hole," said another official from the Garden department. He added that by doing this, they do not aware that made these trees weak.

Last week, when a tree fell over an auto-rickhaw in Mulund, one people died while two injured. When the tree was cut to remove, it was found that cable was raped inside the tree. "People are using trees as a dust bins and keep throwing waste. There is need to understand that this practice can take lives of anyone walking in road or footpath," said Kshirsagar.
