A 45-year-old police constable attached to the Goregaon police station died undergoing treatment at Bhagwati hospital after an auto rickshaw hit him in Malad (West). The incident took place on Saturday while he was going to nab a chain snatcher. He died on Monday at Bhagwati hospital.

“After finishing his work at the police station Kute was going to his house on a bike from Linking Road towards Kandivli. At around 10.30pm when he reached Chincholi Bunder near Fire Brigade office, the signal was red so he halted his bike when an autorickshaw also halted next to him,” said senior police inspector R Kadam of the Bangur Nagar police station.
“When the signal turned green, the rickshaw driver sped and his side mirror stuck the handle of Kute’s bike, due to which Kute lost his balance and fell on the road,” said Kadam.
“The driver was moving at high speed and the rear of the its bumper got stuck in the bike due to which Kute was dragged for around 10 metres on the road. Kute sustained serious injury to his head,” said another officer.
But the driver did not halt and managed to flee from the spot. No one noted down the registration number.
The people who were standing at the bus stop nearby rushed for help. But Kute was unconscious when they admitted him to Bhagwati hospital.
