Two years after the anti-superstition crusader and rationalist Narendra Dabholkar was shot dead, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has formed a team of seven senior police officers to assist the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in its probe. Congress leader Narayan Rane, however, said the case cannot be solved till the Fadnavis-led government is in power, as it is "shielding the killers".
While addressing the media at the Mantralaya, Fadnavis said that recently, CBI had sought help from gthe police department and so the state government decided to respond. He said the seven officers will assist CBI for the next three months or till the investigation is complete. The team comprises Assistant Police Commissioner (Pune) G S Madgulkar, Inspector (Nagpur) Satish Devre, Inspector (Yavatmal) Chandrakant Ghodke, Inspector (Pune) Dinkar Kadam and Assistant Police Inspector Subhash Chavan.
Meanwhile, former CM Rane alleged the government was protecting Dabholkar's killers. He said when Late R R Patil was the home minister, the government had almost completed the investigation. "Now Maharashtra has a weak home minister," he added.
